Post-Publication Discussion

Post-publication discussion

Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society encourages constructive and evidence-based discussion of articles that have been published in journals. Post-publication discussions provide an opportunity for readers, researchers, practitioners, and other interested parties to ask scientific questions, clarify published findings, and provide additional perspectives on community service activities and their results.

This process supports transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in scholarly communication. Karimiyah: The Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society handles post-publication discussions in a fair, objective manner, and in accordance with recognized principles of publication ethics, including the relevant guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Post-publication discussions can address the following:

·        Methods, implementation, or evaluation of community service activities;

·        Accuracy and interpretation of reported results and outputs;

·        The effectiveness, limitations, or sustainability of community service programs;

·        Data validity, analysis, and conclusions;

·        Relevance and accuracy of references;

·        Ethical considerations relating to community engagement, participant consent, and data protection;

·        The broader applicability or implications of the published activity; or

·        Other things that make a meaningful contribution to the understanding and development of community service practices.

Post-publication discussions should be directly related to articles that have been published in Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society and make substantial scholarly contributions.

This process should not be used to appeal editorial decisions related to unpublished manuscripts, to submit general complaints about journal operations, to raise personal or institutional disputes, to make defamatory or unsubstantiated statements, to demand unnecessary citations, or to publish a substantial amount of new research that would be more appropriate to be submitted as a separate manuscript.

Complaints regarding editorial procedures and alleged violations of research or publication ethics will be dealt with in accordance with the policies of the relevant Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society.

Post-Publication Discussion Form

Karimiyah: The Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society facilitates formal post-publication discussions through the following forms:

·        Letter to the Editor: A scientific communication submitted by a reader, researcher, practitioner, or other interested party to comment on or discuss a previously published article.

·        Reply to the Letter to the Editor: A response submitted by the author of the original article to discuss the issues raised in the Letter to the Editor.

Letters to the Editor and their responses are a form of scientific communication, but are not classified as Research Articles or Review Articles.

Karimiyah: The Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society does not set a specific deadline for submission of post-publication discussions. However, submissions should be made as soon as possible after relevant issues are known.

Submission of a Letter to the Editor

Letters to the proposed Editor must be submitted to the Secretariat of the Karimiyah Journal: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society through the journal's official submission channel or the contact information available on the journal's website.

Submissions must include:

·        Title, DOI or URL, as well as information on the publication of the article that is the subject of discussion;

·        Clear and concise explanation of the problems discussed;

·        Scientific or academic reasoning supported by relevant evidence;

·        Appropriate references;

·        The names and affiliations of all authors, along with the contact information of the author of the correspondence;

·        Statements regarding potential conflicts of interest;

·        Relevant funding information; and

·        Disclosure of substantial use of generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technologies, if applicable.

The letter must be original, written in professional and polite language, and not being considered for publication by another journal. The letter must comply with the Journal of Information System and Artificial Intelligence's policies regarding authorship, conflict of interest, plagiarism, confidentiality, copyright, research ethics, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

The letter writer is responsible for the accuracy of the statements, evidence, citations, and interpretations submitted.

Initial Editorial Assessment

The Editor-in-Chief or the designated editor will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether the letter submitted:

·        Included in the scope of post-publication discussions;

·        Discuss substantial and relevant scientific or academic problems;

·        Presenting adequate evidence or logical arguments;

·        Be written clearly, objectively, and professionally;

·        Comply with the journal's ethics and editorial policies; and

·        Requires handling based on other policies, such as correction policies, complaints, appeals, or procedures for handling alleged violations of research ethics.

A letter may be rejected without further review if it does not have a substantial scientific argument, expresses only disapproval without supporting evidence, contains personal attacks or statements that have the potential to defame, discusses matters unrelated to the published article, demands unnecessary citations, discloses confidential or unlawfully obtained information, or is more appropriately submitted as some other type of manuscript.

A letter should not be rejected simply because the original article author disagrees with the arguments presented or chooses not to respond.

Editorial and External Review

Letters to the Editor and responses will generally go through an editorial review. The Editor may request an independent external review if the discussion involves special methods, statistical analysis, evaluation of the results of community service activities, ethical issues, or other technical issues that require additional expertise.

The assessment will consider:

·        Scientific and academic accuracy;

·        Relevance to the original article;

·        Quality and adequacy of supporting evidence;

·        Clarity, fairness, and objectivity of argumentation;

·        Contribution to the development of science and community service practices; and

·        Compliance with publication ethics.

Editors may request revisions, additional evidence, clarifications, supporting data, or removal of inappropriate statements before making a decision.

The review process applied to the Letter to the Editor or its response will be appropriately described. External peer review does not change the status of the Letter to the Editor or its response to a Research Article.

Opportunity for Author Reply

If a letter is considered potentially worthy of publication, the author of the original article will generally be invited to provide a response. The letter, or a fairly detailed description of the problem raised, will be submitted to the author of the original article.

The author of the original article will be given a reasonable amount of time to prepare a response. The response must address the scientific issues raised and meet the same standards of accuracy, supporting evidence, use of professional language, disclosure of conflicts of interest, and publication ethics as applicable to the Letter to the Editor.

The author of the original article is not required to agree with the arguments presented in the letter. Differences in scientific interpretation may remain after both sides have presented their respective arguments and evidence.

The publication of a scientifically valid letter does not depend on the willingness of the original article author to respond. If the author refuses to respond or does not respond within a specified time frame, Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society may publish the letter by including an appropriate statement that the original article author has been invited to respond.

Editors will generally limit the discussion to one Letter to the Editor and one response. Further exchanges of communication may be considered if substantial new evidence is provided or necessary to clarify important scientific issues.

Editorial Decisions

After assessment and, if necessary, external review, Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society can make the following decisions:

·        Receive a Letter to the Editor or his response;

·        Request revisions;

·        Refuse publication;

·        Divert issues to be assessed based on other journal policies;

·        Request clarification or supporting information from the original article's author;

·        Initiating a formal correction process; or

·        Initiating or referring an investigation into alleged violations of research or publication ethics.

The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief or the designated editor and has no relevant conflicts of interest.

If the original article was written or handled by the Editor-in-Chief or other member of the editorial team, the discussion will be assigned to an independent editor who is not involved in the original article and has no relevant conflict of interest.

Errors Identified Through Post-Publication Discussion

If a Letter to the Editor or other post-publication communication identifies a possible error, Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society will assess whether the issue affects the accuracy, interpretation, or conclusion of the published article.

If necessary, the journal may issue corrections, Expressions of Concern, article retraction, or other appropriate actions based on the applicable article correction and retraction policies.

Notice of correction or formal revocation is intended to preserve the integrity of the scientific record and cannot be superseded by a Letter to the Editor.

A letter to the Editor may still be published if it makes a valuable scholarly contribution, even if the issues discussed also lead to formal corrections or other editorial actions.

Concerns About Possible Research or Publication Misconduct

Letters to the Editor should not be used as a substitute for formal reporting mechanisms for alleged violations of research or publication ethics.

If a post-publication communication raises concerns related to possible fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, manipulation of data or images, violations of authorship ethics, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other serious ethical violations, Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society may temporarily suspend the discussion process and address the matter based on the relevant journal's policy regarding violations of research and publication ethics.

Assessments can be made confidentially during the investigation. Depending on the findings, Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society may resume the Letter to Editor consideration process, take formal action against the published article, or close the matter without further action.

Publication and Linking

Letters to the Editor and responses received will be published as separate scientific communications that can be cited.

When supported by a journal publishing infrastructure, the communication will:

·        Have its own publication title and metadata;

·        Obtain their respective DOIs, in accordance with the provisions for journal DOI registration;

·        Identify and cite articles that are the subject of discussion;

·        Electronically linked to the original article;

·        Published simultaneously whenever possible;

·        Disclose conflicts of interest and relevant funding information; and

·        Accessible publicly under the terms of the applicable license at Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society.

Where technically feasible, the original article page will be updated to provide links to Letters to the Editor, responses, corrections, Statements of Concern, or other related post-publication notices.

Communications received for publication will be published as soon as possible within a reasonable time limit, taking into account the editorial process and publishing arrangements. The integrity and accessibility of the original article will be maintained, unless formal post-publication action requires otherwise.

Discussions on External Platforms

Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society acknowledges that discussions of published articles can take place through scholarly forums, institutional correspondence, social media, or independent post-publication review platforms.

The journal may consider credible and verifiable concerns submitted through external platforms. However, the public submission of an issue is not necessarily considered a formal notification to the journal. Parties who wish to make an official assessment or response should report the matter directly to the Secretariat of the Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society.

Issues submitted through external platforms will be assessed based on the same principles of evidence, fairness, confidentiality, and publication ethics as problems submitted directly to journals.

Complaints About the Process

Parties directly involved in post-publication discussions may file complaints if they believe that Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society did not follow established procedures, there are undisclosed conflicts of interest affecting the process, or relevant evidence has not been properly considered.

The complaint will be handled in accordance with the complaint and appeal procedures applicable to Karimiyah: Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society.

Disagreement with editorial considerations or scientific judgment does not in itself constitute an adequate basis for requesting a review.

Policy Review

Karimiyah: The Journal of Islamic Literature and Muslim Society will review and update this policy periodically to ensure its conformity with developments in scientific communication, publication ethics, applicable legal requirements, and relevant COPE guidelines.
